IMPACT VIDEO OF HURRICANE PAUL ON MEXICO'S MAINLAND FIRST PROVIDED BY ENG FTP
New York, NY 10/25/06 -- As Hurricane Paul approached the Pacific Coast of Mexico, ENG
FTP positioned a camera crew to record the impact
of the storm on the costal town of Mazatlan which is a popular location for US tourists. As the storm
made landfall US viewers initially saw
the impact of the storm through the efforts of ENG FTP.
Bruce Wilkinson the President of ENG FTP remarked that the storm being severely
downgraded was a surprise. " We typically do not work with crews for anything less than a Category
1 Hurricane which we thought this was going to be". He went on to say that
"News does always have to be bad news to be in demand". "Our material was used, if for no other reason,
to show viewers that have family living or vacationing there not to worry".
ENG FTP provides a unique service that combines the benefits of video FTP and the reach of satellite distribution. The
video of the storm's impact was sent to New York from Mazatlan through file transfer and was immediately made available to local and national broadcasters though the multipoint benefit of satellite distribution.
Working in cooperation with ENG FTP Michael Lewis, of Photo News Media, was
there to record the impact of the storm. Mr. Lewis has covered many storms
before and most recently covered the hurricane that hit Cabo San Lucas the
month prior. "You never really know what is going to happen or what
you are going to be able to shoot", Lewis said. "We do our best
to represent to broadcasters what it would be like to be where we are and then
get those images to them as quickly as possible".
